MEETING OF THE BOARD.

REPORTS FROAI THE OFFICERS.

The Stratford Hospital Board met yesterday when there were present: Messrs. W. L. Kennedy (chairman), J. T. Belcher, Alax. Gernhoefer, J. O’Neill, G. P. Harkness, E. Alarfell and Airs. Al. T. Phillips. The medical superintendent, Dr. D. Steven, reported that the number of patients admitted during January had been 66, discharged 60, remaining in hospital 30, out-patients attended 7, admissions to maternity ward 14', births 14, visits to ante-natal clinic 81, patients admitted to isolation ward 1, remaining 1. Thirty-six operations had been conducted. The matron (Airs. J. Hunt) reported that Nurse J. Livingstone completed maternity training on January and left the hospital, while Nurse Murray left the hospital on February 10. District Nurse Al. Alyers, Whangamomona, reported that she had had 13 medical and surgical cases and had received £1 5s i n fees. The Aledical Association at Tangarakau forwarded a circular from the lie Works Department regarding the subsidies to be paid in future to medical associations. The Department of Health asked that the board give early consideration to the matter of capital expenditure for the coming financial year and include only those items of expenditure that were essential.’ The Hospital Boards’ Association advised that in view of the financial position the biennial conference set down for March 4at Timar u had been postponed until next year. To complete the alterations at the hospital the medical superintendent, Dr. D. On Friday members of the Stratford Croquet Club visited Elthain and played friendly games with the members of the Eltliam club. The visitors were entertained to luncheon and afternoon tea, and a very pleasant time was spent. At a meeting of the library committee the librarian (Miss Cave) reported that there were at present 122 members; The takings for December were £5 2s 6d and for January .£7 Ils, a total of £l2 13s 6d. New books added totalled 55; books repaired 43, books beyond repair 19. GENERAL ITEMS. The resignation of Miss M. Myers, district nurse at Whangamomona, was accepted with regret by. the Stratford Hospital Board yesterday. “Miss Myers has held the position for 12 years and has given most satisfactory service to the board as well ah having been very popular in the district,” said the chairman, Mi'. W. L. Kennedy. Applications to fill the position at a salary of £2OO a year will be invited. Residents at Cardiff are reminded of the public meeting to be held at Cardiff to-night at 8 o’clock. The meeting has been called by Mr. C. A. Marchant, the district’s representative' on the Stratford earthquake relief committee, and the business will be to set up local organisation. Ladies are specially invited.
