After leading the fleet for more than twb iouiids of the course the Wellington boat Betty secured a narrow win from the Auckland representative Avalon in the first race for the Sanders Memorial Cup in Otago harbour this afternoon. Avalon looked like a winner from the start and had tho race -fvell in hand, when skilittl sailing on the part of the Wellington skipper placed Betty in the leiid. A feature of the race was the keen tussle between the Southland challenger Rona and the Canterbury representative Colleen.
