HAWERA SWIMMING EVENING
CHAMPIONSHIP PREPARATIONS.
VICE-CAPTAIN MAINTAINS LEAD.
Final preparations for the Taranaki swimming championships were made by the Hawera Swimming Club at its evening sports last night. A series of races for various club trophies was also conducted. The banner ' competition was continued, the captain’s team scoring 28 poin’-, and the vice-captain’s 26. The totals are: Vice-captain, 203; Captain, 200. Details ara:— . The club committee met at the conclusion of the sports, Mr. A. W. Lawn presiding. Instructors for the learn to swim week were appointed as follow: Tuesdays and Thursdays (girls’ hours): 12 to one, Miss Betty Ryan; 1 to 2, Miss F. Murray; 2 to 3, Miss Z. Spragg; 3 to 4, Misses K. Duckworth and B. Powdrell; 12 to 4, Mesdames E. Higgs, T. Moss and Fergusson. Friday (men s hours): 12 to 1, Mr. B. Bassett; 1 to 2, Messrs. B. Ryan and M. R. Nelson; 2 to 3, Mr. V. Spragg; 3 to 4, Mr. I. Jobson; 12 to 4, Mr. P. Spragg; 12 to 4 daily, Messrs. A. W. Lawn and D. G. Ryan. Adults who wish to learn are requested to report at the baths between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. (men) and 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. (women) on any morning. Thanks were extended to Messrs. V. Spragg (presentation of cup), J. D. Hamilton (writing a sign) and A. Gamlin (use of property for club picnic). Mr. D. C. Ryan was appointed manager of the championship team. Application is to be made to Hie centre for a carnival on March 9. Swimmers attending the New Zealand championships at Wanganui a few .days earlier are to to asked to attend.
