JOHNSONVILLE SALE. SHEEP AND LAMBS FIRM.At Johnsonville on ‘Wednesday sheep prices were firm and lambs showed an advance, but cattle were again lower. There was a full yarding of all classes of stock, with th© exception of lambs, which were in short supply. Beef.—The yarding comprised good quality medium-weight bullocks with a few pens of heavier sorts. The demand was good at reduced limits, prices for bullocks showing a decline of £1 per head as compared with last week’s sale. Vealers showed a decline of from 5s to 7s 6d per head. Sheep—The quality of the sheep—both ewes and wethers—was good, some extra heavy sheep being offered. Prices were firm at last week’s limits.

Lambs were in short supply and showed an advance on late sales.

LITTLE CHANGE AT BURNSIDE.

Dunedin, Feb. 11.

There was little improvement in the tone of the Burnside stock sale to-day. Prices realised for fat cattle were about equal to those quoted at the previous sale, while lambs were sold at lower -rates. The demand for ewes was firm, and this class was sold at a slight increase in values. Pigs showed a slight drop in price. So far as quality was concerned, the yarding of fat cattle was very disappointing. The entry included some prime heifers and bullocks, but no extra heavy animals were forward. Competition was not brisk and the sale opened quietly. Heavy bullocks made to £l3 os; medium, £l2 IDs; light, £8 ss; heavy heifers, £9 15s; medium, £8; light, £7; heavy cows, £9 10s; medium, £8; light, £6 ss.

Approximately 1500 sheep were forward. The quality was indifferent, the bulk of the entry consisting of medium, to very fair ewes and a few pens of good wethers. The demand, generally Avas firm, and ewes sold at an advance of about Is a head; but prices for wethers were irregular and showed no appreciable change. Prime wethers sold., to 15s; medium, 13s; prime ewes, 12s 9d; medium, 9s 9d. Wethers sold on a basis of 2%d and ewes of about Ijd per lb.

About SOO lambs were offered. The quality was good, a small number being extra prime. Competition was fairly keen, but prices quoted were in excess of export buyers’ limits. Prices generally showed a drop of about 2s per head. Heavy lambs sold to 15s; average weights, 13s; light, Ils 3d; inferior sorts, 9s. Prices realised for best quality lambs were equivalent to 4Jd or 5d a lb.

The store cattle entry consisted of about 100 head of indifferent quality. The yarding included one pen of three bullocks, but the balance comprised plain young steers, heifers and cows. There was little life in the sale and several pens were passed unsold. Very fair three-year-old bullocks sold to £6; young steers, £2 9s; light heifers, £1 17s to £2 2s 6d.

Pigs.—The entry consisted of 32 fats and 34 stores. Mostly porkers were included in the fat entry. Prices realised for porkers were equivalent to about 6d and baconers about sfd a lb,
