RUSSIA A GREAT ENIGMA
POSSIBILITIES OF FUTURE
MAY BE GREATEST NATION
INCREASE IN POPULATION
OPINIONS OF DEAN INGE
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. ' London, Oct. 15.
In a lengthy* review of the trend of events in Russia Dean Inge, in the Evening Standard, raised the question of whether the democracies of the West will be able to stand up against Russia. Russia is the largest country in the world with an increase in population at the rate of nearly 3,000,000 against 2,500,000. for the rest of Europe. In Russia the individual is ruthlessly sacrificed for the State and there is a vast standing army. Russia in a short time may be the most powerful nation in the world, all the more powerful because the population is in the depths of misery and will obey with Oriental hopelessness and passivity. Europe is not yet afraid, foi it is afraid only of Communism, in which Dean Inge is of the opinion there is no danger. He would be a rash man to prophesy where Russia is concerned. Russia is the great enigma of the future.
