A “SPIRIT” MARRIAGE
RICH MAN AND WOMAN MEDIUM.
The unusual romance of Mr. James Weed, a wealthy recluse of Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A., has been disclosed by the effort of his niece, with his consent, to annul his marriage to Lillian Lynott, a former spiritualistic medium. A move has also been macle to have appointed by the courts a conservator of the property and person of this 70-year-old man to protect his estate of £lOO,OOO. In support of the move for tho annulment it is declared that the marriage was purely spiritualistic and that Mr. Weed never lived with his wife, who disappeared shortly after the ceremony. Mr. Weed, it is said, met his wife when he sought “inspired” information from her regarding his Wall Street investments. This led to his interest in spiritualism, and Lynott, who was then known as Lillian Starr, told him that his dead parents wished him to marry her. When she showed him these instructions written on a slate, presumably in his parents’ handwriting, he consented, and they were married. The ceremony, it was later revealed, was just 11 days after Lynott had been arrested and fined for fortune-telling. Before leaving the wealthy bridegroom the spiritualist obtained £llOO as a first payment towards a spiritualistic temple she proposed to found, and which she told him would be a profitable f'i'.um’ii'.l venturi*. 1 ’ il! : ‘
