DEATHS IN CRASH OF HOUSE
THRILLING RESCUE ON COAST
TWO DROWNED AT HAVRE
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 29.
Renewed gales along the coast and extending inland are responsible for considerable damage, tearing off roofe and uprooting large trees. A house collapsed at Manchester, burying a mother and daughter beneath the debris and injuring four children. The German steamer Hermione was overwhelmed in the Channel, but the captain, his wife and child and the crew were rescued spectacularly, after a stern struggle, by the Margate lifeboat. The water-logged steamer drifted before the gale and is a menace to shipping, but Ft was subsequently located and anchored.
The gale also swept the whole of the north of France, causing great havoc to trees, houses and telegraph wires. A miniature tidal wave at Havre swept over the quay, flooded part of the city and sank a tug. Two were drowned. z Many trans-Channel services and ail the air lines were suspended.
