FITZROY SURF CLUB

WATER POLO TEAM CHOSEN. .Although there were about 90 members of the Fitzroy Surf Club at the weekly practice at the New Plymouth baths last night the cold air deterred many from competing in the races. Coaching was carried on by older members. A game of water polo between the team to represent the club and the rest resulted in a win for the former. The following have been chosen for the senior polo team: —W. Toomey (goal), V. Wafehc and R. Parkinson (backs), K. Staunton (half), H. J. Thomas and C. Plumtree (forwards), W. J. Thomas - (centre). In accordance with the training programme, the evening’s races were increased to a distance of 50 yards. The results are: — Boys.—L. Bennett 1, S. Barnden and S. Snowden dead-heat for second place. Won by a touch. Men’s. —W. Toomey 1, D. Robertson 2, R. Parkinson 3. Time, 30 l-ssec. Junior ladies.—Miss D. Cock 1. Ladies. —Miss J. Charters 1, Miss P. Tate 2, N. Christoffel 3. A touch separated first five.
