Alotor-cyclists who park their machines in Stratford have, for some •time past, experienced annoyance as the result of numerous petty thefts. A good deal of the trouble arises from the fact that motor-cycles are not allowed to park in central Broadway, but must be left in the less lighted, areas north and south of Regan and Fenton Streets, where thieves experience little difficulty in abstracting anything easily movable from the machines. In view of this, a petition requesting the Borough Council to provide a parking place in central Broadway, is now being circulated. Egmont United Association football team will play at New Plymouth to-day. The team is:—Gibbs, Wright, Clarke, Dudding, Verney, Glass, O’Shannessy, Millar, Lawrence, Hood, Davis. In view of the recent discussion by the borough council concerning the parking of cars in Bridge Street it is reported that particular attention is being paid to the speed of cars on that thoroughfare. With the cause of education so much in tho forefront at the present time it is natural that cases of hardship attendant upon tho requirements of the State in this respect should occasionally he brought to light. A Daily News representative was informed recently that, to allow of her child attending a country school, a mother was in the habit of walking four miles every morning across paddocks with the child, at the same time wheeling an infant in a perambulator, returning immediately doubtless to attend to tho onerous duties of a farmhouse. The walk across ’paddocks, it is understood, means a saving of several miles by road. Members and adherents of St. Andrew’s Church assembled in largo numbers in St. Andrew’s Hall last night for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. and Mrs. John McKee and family, who [ have recently left Stratford to reside in Hawera. Eulogistic reference was made by tho minister (Rev. J. MacGregor), members of the session, board of managers, and members of the congregation to tho keen interest and practical expression of sincere religious, conviction made by Mr. McKee. Then guest had frequently conducted services in town and in tho outlying districts and had interested himself very keenly in the work of tho church. On behalf of tho congregation a handsome presentation was made to the departing family.
