AUSTRALIA FISH-STARVED
SCHEME FOR DEVELOPMENT FISHERIES NOT EXPLOITED PROPOSALS FOR RESEARCH By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian Press Association. Received July 26, 11 p.m. Sydney, July 26. Representatives of the fisheries departments of the Commonwealth met in conference to-day and discussed practical measures for the development of Australian fisheries, which were entirely unex‘ploited, with the result that the average Australian consumed only about 14 pounds of fish annually compared with 25 lbs. in Now Zealand and 40 lbs. in Britain. Mr. H. Gepp, chairman of the migration committee of the commission, outlined a scheme for research and committees were appointed to investigate the potentialities of the Commonwealth fish resources.
Mr. Gepp added Australians were fishhungry and fish-starved.
