OPUNAKE NEWS

BOWLING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting was held on Wednesday evening. About 20 members were present; Mr. A. Hindi (president) presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £4 on the past year's working. The receipts during the year amounted to £lll. The president, in reviewing the past year’s work, stated the club had received visits from the South Auckland bowlers and other clubs. The Opunake bowlers had paid visits to other clubs. Mr. Burton’s rink had won the Christy Shield whilst Mr. Gunson represented the club in the provincial town tournament. During the season Messrs. Walker, Wilson, Hammond, and Burtion had done a lot of work for the chib. The balance-sheet was adopted. ' Mr. Sinclair congratulated the club on the successful year under difficult circumstances. New members were elected as follow: W. H. Burgess, J. Turnbull, G. Baylis, D. Hickey, A. Webb, W. Crawford, D. Trotter, A. G. Hardy, D. Laing, J. Ewart, and N. Reardon. Election of officers resulted: President, T. H. H. Sinclair; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. J. Brennan and J. Smith; secretary, G. Hammond (re-elected); treasurer P. Dalrymple; general committee, Messrs. A. Hinch, W. Gunson, J. Harrigan, J. P. Burton, A. Fake and J. Judson; green warden, Mr. A. Hinch; auditor, Mr. J. Harrigan; delegate to centre, Mr. T. H. H. Sinclair; delegate to southern division, Mr. T. H. H. Sinclair.

Some discussion took place regarding the club joining the southern and western divisions owing to the difficulty of providing Wednesday and Saturday players . It was proposed that the club withdraw from the western division, providing the members get Wednesday play. This was lost in favour of an amendment that the general committee go into the matter and investigate if the club had sufficient playss to compete in Wednesday and Saturday matches. Finally it was decided to enter rinks for both divisions.

Arising out of the foregoing difficulty of Saturday and Wednesday half-holi-daTys, it was proposed by Mr. Stephenson that the elub support the Saturday halfholiday, and that the secretary write to the Taranaki Bowling Association to that effect.—Carried.

It was decided that the appointment £>f caretaker be left to the general committee; also that a new lawn mower be obtained. The matter of afternoon teas was left to a committee consisting of Messrs. Hammond, Sinclair and Gunson. Messrs. Burton and Wilson were appointed selectors for the southern division.

The secretary thanked Messrs. Fake ar Gunson for work on the green, and Messrs. Smith, Feaver, Walker,. Baylis and Hinch, and others for assistance. Mr. Hinch, last' year’s president, thanked all for assistance rendered during his term.
