MAORI BURIED BY ROCK.

EAST COAST RAILWAY TRAGEDY.

A well-known Maori, Rangi Brown,/ married, aged 40, was killed while;, working in the Public Works quarry at Opoiitama on the Wairoa to Gisborne railway construction works late yesterday afternoon. • He was engaged in firing shots high up the slope when a large piece of rock fell and hit his head, Brown falling to the bottom of the quarry. A shot then occurred, bringing down a fall of earth, which covered the unfortunate man. When removed Brown was found to bo dead, evidently killed by the rock.
