There was a good attendance at the Stratford Methodist Hall on Wednesday evening when Rev. R. F. Goldie, president of the missionary conference and pioneer of missionary work in the Solomon Islands, delivered an interesting

lecture on his work and on the influence of missionaries generally in the Pacific. With him was a fuzzy-haired native boy, Kera, who sang a popular hymn in his native tongue. Kera also spoke to the audience through Mr. Goldie, who acted as interpreter. The Rev. H. L. Blamires presided.

A sub-committee of the Stratford Demonstration Farm Society has been empowered to make the necessary arrangements for building a silo for use on the farm.

The following will represent Stratford in a draughts match against Eltham to be played on Wednesday next: E. S. Rutherfurd, J. Southam, E. Cole, E. Walters, F. Jepson, C. Forbes, F. Weston, J. Weston, McCullough and W. Boyd. Stratford is now leading in the competition for the Lehrke Cup.

Word was received by the last Vancouver mail of the death from pneumonia at Merritt, Canada, on June 13, of Mr. Edwin G. Finnerty, third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Finnerty, formerly of Patea, and brother of Mr. C. R. Finnerty, Stratford. Mr. Finnerty was farming for a number of years at Te Wera and. with his brothers. owned and farmed a property at Whangamomona. He later moved to Hawke’s Bay, where he volunteered and was accepted for service in the overseas forces. He was invalided home and again took up farming in Hawke’s Bay.

About fTve years ago Mr. Finnerty went to Canada and resided there until his death. A wide circle of friends will extend sympathy to surviving relatives. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Boon left Stratford yestenky for a visit to the Bay of Plenty. The Stratford Association football team to play Rangers at Fitzroy tomorrow will be: —Harrold, Brown, Cheesman, Raynor, Aird, Hilton, Barker, Payne, Puncheon, Johnson, Jones.
