EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND.
TOKAORA’S SUCCESSFUL EFFORT.
The sum of £34 was collected for the earthquake fund by an entertainment at Tokaora on Wednesday. Fifty-six ears were parked outside the hall and the hall was practically filled with dancers, while in the card room 84 competed for the prizes. The winners were Mrs. Whelan 1, Miss J. Wytkin 2 (after a play-off with Mrs. Adlam and Mrs. Johnson) ; Mr, W. Green and Mr. F. .Stewart (after a play-off with Mr. Joyce and Mr. Bell). Prizes for euchre and dancing were donated by Mrs. Wytkin, Mrs. E. Jennings, Mrs. Kavanagh, Mrs. Joyce, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. H. B. Taylor, Mr. Ward and Mr. Joyce. The two novelty dances were won by Miss Ward and* Mr. Herlihy and by Mrs. Simons and Mr. Clarke. The masters of . ceremonies .. were L. Barr and Rupert Griffin, and music was given by Wills’ orchestra. A concert programme was arranged, the following taking part: Miss A. White, Mr. J. Burns, Mr. L. Epai (songs), Miss Bullock and Miss ‘Washer (recitations), Mr. J. E, Campbell .(anecdotes), and Messrs; J. Renwick and Barleyman played the 'accompaniments. The takings totalled just over £34, which included cash donations from Mr. T. Bollond £2, Mr. F. Stewart 10s, Mr. H. P. Ward £2, MrSi P. Ward 10s, Mr. H. Jordan £l, Mr. L. Kavanagh £l, Mr. F. Mills £l, Mr. H. Barr £l, Mr. Burn £2. Mr. H. Wells 10s, Mr. N. Campbell
The committee acknowledged these gifts and’the supplying of a bus by the Egmont Tourist Company, the driver giving his services free, supper by the ladies, music by the orchestra, in addition to the work of the concert performers, and many other services given voluntarily.
