SUBMARINE UPHEAVAL

OLD REPORT RECALLED. .Westport, July 16." The submarine disturbance off 'Fare-' well Spit on Sunday recalls a report about six years before the war, in which the Farewell Spit light-keepers described. a remarkable happening one night. The lighthouse keepers stated that they no- ... ticed a red glare in the clouds out at sea. Thinking a ship was on fire they turned their glasses on it, but could see no ship. The glare increased and the sea below was noticed to be violently agitated as if it were boiling. Then a huge luminous mass was seen to rise up out of the sea and remain some time before subsiding. The glare finally faded out of the sky. No shakes or other dis- ■' turbances accompanied this strange ■ phenomenon.
