EMBALMED BODY OF SPANIEL

DISCOVERY AT PALMERSTON. CASE SEALED FOR FIVE YEARS. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Palmerston N., July 8. An amazing discovery was recently made on th premises of a Palmerston North firm. On opening a case which had been securely locked for five years it was found to contain an elaborate oak coffin of small dimensions, with ornamental facings. The police were summoned, and on removing the lid they found a hermetically sealed case within. This was opened and they found the mummified bod yof a little black spaniel, which had been carefully embalmed, apparently a sentimental idiosyncracy of the owner. The body was promptly destroyed, removing the penetrating odour which led to the discovery. The case was entrusted to the care of the firm five years ago by a client, who said he would claim it in two days. He has not yet returned.
