There was an extraordinary outburst when Thomas Jackson was found not guilty at the Swansea Assizes of a charge of murdering his wife, Madame X, on February 24. Pandemonium broke loose. Women jumped up, clapped their hands and cheered the prisoner. When he was liberated he had to push his way through a mass of struggling women trying to kiss him.
