EIGHT FIRE ENGINES IN USE
WELLINGTON WAREHOUSE BURNS, > STOCK CONSIDERABLY By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An outbreak of fire in the building of Messrs. A. and T. Burt, Ltd., hardwara dealers, Courtenay Place, on Saturday night caused considerable damage before tho brigade succeeded in gaining control. The fire already had a good hold when tho alarm was given at 6.40 p.m. A very large crowd soon assembled to watch the operations of the brigade, which brought eight machines into use. The building is of brick, with an iron roof and two floors. Tho flre, which evident ? started in the packing room, was at its worst at the rear of the building, where the workhouse is situated and in order to cope with it the brigade operated largely 'from York Street. After working for an hour and a-half the brigade managed a to suppress the outbreak and prevent ’- it from spreading to the adjoining buildings. Considerable damage by fire and water bad been caused, although, had the stock been other than hardware, more damage would have resulted. The insurances are not available
