OAKURA FARMERS’ UNION
VETERINARY ASSOCIATION PLAN.
A meeting of the Oakura branch of the Farmers’ Union was held at Oakura on Monday. There was a very satisfactory attendance of members and others. The chairman, Mr. C. J. Harris, gave a report of the annual conference of the provincial executive. He also related how the Farmers’ Union and the business interests in New Plymouth had co-operated in entertaining the visitin'* farmers from the south last month, giving a short description of the programme carried out on that occasion. °He stated a large number of cars had been lent for the convenience of the visitors, and thanked local farmers tor having lent cars and for driving them during the visit. The question of inaugurating a veterinary association operating between New Plymouth and Okato, was discussed. The scheme had been brought forward by the Okato branch, information having been sought with reference to the running of the association and an outline drawn up and offered for discussion among farmers who would be interested. It was proposed that the scheme should be run on a butter-fat basis, which would probably be the fairest way to divide the expense. It was recoonised that only a first-class man would meet the requirements of the association. After some discussion it was decided to support the scheme, and Messrs P. Knight, Emslie and C. J. Harris were elected delegates to confer with the Okato branch on the matter. The Oakura branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union met on Monday night and discussed preparations for the forthcoming social, which it is hoped to hold at Oakura. It was hoped that during the winter at least one maternity outfit would be made up and sent to the bush nurse.
