THE ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Patea Boxing Association was held on Friday evening, Mr. L. Hunt presiding in the absence of the president, Mr. P. S. Finlayson. Messrs. Waterland, Delargey, Gordon, J. Paterson, G. Jones, G. Fish, H. Scown, Hodge, Ranger, Cooley, Tennet, F. Naismith, F. Goodwin, I). Ansley and C. Gardiner (secretary) were also present. Mr. Waterland said- although a resolution had been passed authorising that the annual meeting be held in February, this had not been adhered to. He would' like to hear -the secretary’s explanation. The secretary stated the holding o’ rhe annual meeting rested with members and the president as well as with him. He did not see any advantage in holding the meeting any earlier than the present time. Mr. F. Goodwin supported Mr. Waterlaud, stating that the resolution had been ignored by the secretary. Mr. Waterland said the secretary’s explanation was not satisfactory—the meeting should have been called during February as directed by the minutes.

Mr. J. Gordon remarked he was the mover of the motion referred to, and it had been passed with the idea of holding a tournament at the end of March, when the freezing works were in full swing. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of over £34, was adopted. Replying to Mr. Naismith, the 'secretary stated the credit balance for the previous season was over £GI. The association had held three tournaments during the year, but struck wet nights on two occasions. The sum of £37 had been expended on trophies owing to fewer being donated during the season. Concerning an intern of £8 shown as travelling expenses for H. Scown to the New Zealand championships in Auckland, the secretary stated the amount authorised had been £5, but with the president’s authority it had been increased to £S. The election of . officers resulted as follows: Patron, Dr. Simmons; president, Mr. F. Ramsbottom; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. T. Christensen, J. A. McKenna, J. Paterson, W. Tinney, T. Bowen, C. R. The election of the match committee was left to the executive.

On St. George’s Day the Ven. Archdeacon P. Creed Meredith, Wanganui, delivered the sermon in St. George’s Anglican Chur-h. He outlined the life of the Patron Saint of England and exhorted his hearers to follow up the example set by St. George and exterminate the evils existing in their midst.
