FIRE IN SPIRIT STORE
BIG BLAZE IN MELBOURNE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received Jan. 1, 5.5 p.m. A. and N.Z. Melbourne, Dec. 31. A fire in the cellars of H-arbottle and Company, spirit merchants, St. James’ Place, which is in the centre of the eity, caused enormous damage before it was subdued. Thousands of pounds worth of gin and whiskey were destroyed. The spirits were contained in huge vats and the firemen," while fighting the out break, had to face the risk of an explosion at any moment. The cause of the fire is unknown.
