TO-DAY’S BIG MATCH. AUCKLAND TEAM AT HAWERA. Big cricket will be played in Hawera to-day, when Mr. E. C. Beale’s Auckland touring team will commence a two day match against Taranaki. The Aucklanders arrived in Hawera last night, and are staying at the Royal Hotel. The team for to-day’s match has not been definitely settled, but Mr. Beale stated last night that to-day’s team would definitely include J. Langridge, the profes sional, who made 106 not out against Feilding this week, and would most probI ably be as follows: Bush, Butler, Fraser, Gee, Hetherington (wicket-keeper), Langridge, Monteith, Schrauer, Webb, Weir, Whitelaw. The Taranaki team is as follows: — Barker, Bottrill, Cheevers, Court, Eggleton, IL Fookes, Grace, Hayward, H. Hughes, Penny, A. Thomae. Twelfth man, Donnelly. The Auckland tourists, after defeating Waikato at Hamilton, secured an easy win over Feilding and district by an innings and 87 runs. Auckland made 234 runs for eight wickets, to which Langridge contributed a splendid 106 not out. The Feilding bowling and ground work was good, but their batsmen failed before the Auckland attack, and were dismissed twice for totals of 64 and 83 respectively. Cooper, who is unable to play, in Taranaki owing to being required for the Plunket Shield match, took six wickets for 11 runs in the first innings and three for 11 in the second.

After the conclusion of the match in Pawera to-morrow the visitors travel to New Plymouth by the mail train in the evening, and after a break on Friday, will commence their second match against Taranaki at Pukekura Park on Saturday, finishing the match on New Year’s Day (Monday). On Friday morning the team will be taken on a sight-seeing tour round New Plymouth ,and on Sunday will probably be taken to tho North Egmont mountain house. The team leaves for the south again on Tuesday morning.

PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON TEAM SELECTED. By Telegraph.—Press AjsaocUtlen. Wellington, Dec. 27. Mr. K. H. Tucker has selected the following team to represent Wellington in the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury commencing on Saturday at Wellington: Brice (captain), Dempster, Worker, Lowry, Foley, James, Lambert, Badeock, McGirr, Bernau, Massey, Airey. (twelfth man). Hollings and Henderson were not available for selection. AUCKLAND V. HAMILTON. NORTHERNERS HAVE INNINGS WIN Hamilton, Last Night. The Auckland eleven defeated Hamilton by an innings and 130 runs. The Aucklanders made 445 in their first innings, Hamilton replying with 117 and 190 respectively in each innings.

CANTERBURY v. WEST COAST. Greymouth, Last Night. An inter provincial cricket match, Canterbury v. West Coast, started to-day. Coast made 159, Barlow scoring 54, Casey 38 and King 23. Bowling, Rex took eight wickets for 45. Canterbury made 147. Bowling, Fass look four for 26 and Knapp three for 43. In their second innings Coast lost four wickets for 27.
