Whereas 200,000 people welcomed Lindbergh at Croydon and another 60,000 acclaimed Chamberlain at Berlin, only twelve people, including relatives a .d new-spaper men, welcomed Carr ana Gillman at Victoria Station, after they had risked their lives to secure the long distance record for Great Britain and failed by the narrow margin of only 185 miles. They drove home from the station without a single cheer.
