LIFE-SAVING ACCIDENT

CRAMP ALMOST PROVES FATAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Feb. 14. Two narrow escapes from drowning occurred on the St. Clair beach yesterday. A life-saving team was having a practice run when the “patient” took cramp and drifted some distance to sea. Two reels were quickly brought into play and, after a hard struggle, he was brought ashore, where he recovered. Immediately after an alarm was again raised and it soon became obvious that this case was an urgent one, as the drowning person was drifting rapidly out with the tide. McLean, a High School boy, who is a junior member of the life-saving team, quickly went to the assistance. He reached the man, keeping him afloat until the senior lifesaving team had manned a reel. By this time the man was nearly unconscious. After a quick pull in resuscitation was resorted to and medical assistance restored consciousness.
