HEAVY DAMAGE BY FLOODS

RAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Dec. 30. Although the floods have subsided at Newcastle and Cessnock, and people are able to return to their homes, additional heavy rains in the central coast districts have caused serious floods the Hunter Valley, where the river overflowed its banks, submerging farm lands and rich lucerne flats. The damage is very extensive. Despite the heavy falls in. some centres the rains will greatly benefit the primary industries. Most of the harvest had already been taken off before the rain, while the present condition of the soil will enable wheatgrowers to commence fallowing. The damage to standing crops is negligible.
