NO MEANS OF SUPPORT.
FOURTEEN DAYS’ IMPRISONMENT.
Having pleaded guilty to a charge of being without lawful means of support, Alexander McTigue was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment by Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., in the Police Court at New Plymouth yesterday. Senior Sergeant McCrorie, who appeared for the police, said that McTigue came from Greymouth to New Plymouth on December 20 as a stowaway on board the steamer Kittawa. He had been frequenting the wTiarves since hie arrival, and it was said that he had been taking other men’s lunches. He apparently slept out in the open at night time
“He always seemed to evade me, dodging in and out between the railway trucks and running across the wharves and through the windscreens whenever I appeared,’’ explained Constable Parkinson, who added that the accused had given his occupation as a draper. He had been quite sober on all occasions, not frequenting the hotel, put was now practically bootless. The magistrate imposed a sentence as stated.
A SERIOUS CHARGE.
ACCUSED REMANDED
In the Children’s Court at New Plymouth yesterday a middle-aged man was charged with committing indecent assault on a male on December 27. On the application of Senior Sergeant McCrorie, who appeared for the police, tlie accused was remanded until 111 a.m. on Friday, January 7.
