The Kairanga, which arrived in the roadstead at 5 p.m. on Monday, was berthed at 7.30 a.m. yesterday morning at the Moturoa wharf. The Kairanga is a comparatively new boat. She was built in Hull, and after lying Idle for some time she was taken over 1 by the Union Company. After taking a light cargo to Tasmania, the vessel was loaded with general cargo for New Zealand ports. The Kairanga arrived at Newcastle too late to encounter the shipping trouble there, but at Poij Stephens her loading operations were hindered by the sinking of a hulk and a lighter, from which the Kairanga was being loaded. During the trip from Newcastle to New Zealand no sign was seen of either the H.K. Hal! or the Holmwood. In fact, only one

vessel was sighted during .the whole trip. Wind and rough aeas were encountered, but fair weather prevailed until off New Plymouth. The Kairanga has a cargo of 2042 tons, made up of tooa'l and timber for New Plymouth. She has also 1'126 tons to discharge at Wellington. Her gross tonnage is 2830 tons, she is 324 feet long, has a 44 foot beam and is 25.5 feet deep. Her dead weight capacity is 4806 tons. Uaiftain G. W. Ruxdon is in command, and associated with him are the following officers: Chief, Mr. G. W. Godfrey; second, Mr. H. Moar; third, Mr. J. Barnard; chief engineer, Mr. H. E. McClelland; second, J. T. Wilson; third, Mr. R. B. wireless operator, Mr. J. Lloyd Jones; Chief steward, Mr. Petersen. The full ship's company is 33. After the vessel berthed yesterday a start was made immediately to discharge her cargo of coal, and it is expected she will sail from here about Monday or Tuesday. OPUA ARRIVES. The Opua, with 200 tons of cargo, arrived from Tarakohe yesterday morning and it was expected, that her discharge would be completed in time to enable her to sail late last night for Lyttelton. OPIHI IN PORT. With 520 tons of general cargo for New Plymouth, the Opihi arrived from Dunedin at 3.50 p.m. yesterday. She is expected to sail for Westport and Greymouth to-day. JOHN DUE TO-DAY. The John from southern ports is due here to-day. It is hoped to despatch her in the afternoon for Westport, where she will 'load coal for New Plymouth. WINGATUI TO-MORROW. The- Union Company advise that the Winlgatui with general cargo from southern ports is to leave Wellington to-day for New Plymouth, and is expected here on Thursday. MAHOE SHELTERING. The 0.. v. Mahoe, en route to Waitara, put in at New Plymouth for shelter at midnight on Monday. CORINNA NEXT TRIP. The Corinna, Which is scheduled to leave Dunedin on Saturday for New Plymouth ami ports en route is expected here about January 6. HOLMWOOD NOT SIGHTED. The Holmwood, which arrived off Now Plymouth on Monday afternoon, is Still standing out to sea, and was not sighted yesterday. ONEHUNGA SERVICE. With passengers and general cargp the Rarawa is due here this morning from Onehunga. She will ysail in the evening after the arrival df the' mail train. RIM UTA-ILA'S MOVEMENTS. The Rlmutaka was scheduled to leave Wellington at noon yesterday for this port. Owing to the number of boats in port, however, her arrival may be slightly delayed. The Rimu-

taka returns to Wellington on January 3 to complete. Afterwards she proceeds to Napier, Gisborne and Auckland to finish, sailing from the -latter port on January 14 for New York, Boston and West of England ports. PAKIPAKI FROM WELLINGTON. The A. and A. Line steamer Pakipakl, which is discharging New York cargo at Wellington, was to -leave on Monday for Lyttelton, thence Dunedin and New Plymouth, to complete her discharge. PINNA DIVERTED. The British -Imperial Oil Company's steamer Pinna, en route from Singapore, has been diverted to Australia and is now expected at Auckland about December 28. She proceeds later to Wellington and New Plymouth. ' TEKOA CLEARS PANAMA. En route from London, which port the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Tekoa left on November 28, the vessel arrived at Panama on December 16, and -sailed again the following day for New Zealand via Suva. The Tekoa is due at Auckland about January 6 to discharge, and has cargo also for discharge at Wellington, Port Chalmers and New Plymouth. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. ARRIVED.
