BASE AT SINGAPORE.
ATTITUDE OF JAPANESE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 21. The Sunday Times had an interview with Baron Hayashi (Japanese Ambassador), who said he thought his country’s leaders recognised that the construction of the Singapore base was inevitable. They realised that the plans had been discussed many years ago. The whole world must recognise that Britain possessed a scattered empire and her statesmen rightly regarded it as their duty to do their best in the interest of the Empire. There was nothing more in the Singapore base than what might be called a sound commercial proposition. Baron Hayashi added that he was confident Japan’s relations with America were never more promising.
