THE SEARCH FOR OIL.
DEVELOPMENTS NEAR NELSOF A FAVOURABLE REPORT By Telegraph—Press .Association. Nelson, Last Night. Important developments tin coonneC* tion with oil deposits in the Murchison district are likely to take place shortly. The fields were thoroughly tested some' months ‘ago by Mr. J. A. Spencer, the expert formerly with the AngloPersian Oil Company, who made an exhaustive survey of the Murchison district, and it is understood his report on the possibilities of oil being found in payable quantities was of the . most favourable nature. At a sitting of the warden’s court at Murchison yesterday, on the application of Mr. Kemnitz, prospecting warrants were recommended to D. A. Oxnam (one) and J. Bassett '(two) over an area of 20.000 acres in the Tutaki and Matiri districts. The warrants are for prospecting for oil, petroleum and natural gases. It is understood an Auckland syndicate has been formed to try out the field.
