TRAIN STRIKES VAN.
TWO BOYS INJURED STRUCK BY MOTOR VEHICLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Levin, Dee. 22. The south-bound New Plymouth express, running late on Saturday afternoon, collided at the level crossing at the entrance to the Levin railway yard with a motor delivery van driven by k R. Anderson. The van was carried about 20 feet ami thrown off the line on the opposite side, where two boys were standing on the footpath waiting for the train to pass. One, Wilfrid Martin, was struck on the head by the van, sustaining a fractured skull and severe wounds. He was taken to Palmerston North Hospital today. The other, a Chronicle runner. Gordon Milroy, was rendered unconscious, but is now recovering. The driver escaped unhurt, but the van was badly knocked about. MOTOR CAR SMASHED. LEVEL CROSSING AGAIN. - Gisborne, Dec. 22. During shunting operations at Makafska a cream wagon collided with a motor-car crossing the roadway, the car being smashed to pieces. Its driver, Talbot, with his wife and family, had a miraculous escape.
