CONFERENCE MATTERS.

MR. CHURCHIL’S VIEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, March B. Mr. Winston Churchill, in the course of an interview, said that, if the Safeguarding of Industries Act was used as part of a scheme to impose a general tariff, he would oppose it. He, for many years, had been committed to the principle of giving the fullest possible tariff preference to the Dominions. He did not consider the Imperial Conference resolutions from the fiscal viewpoint, but as a. question of Imperial diplomacy. He expressed the opinion that they would not injure the masses of the population and since the breaking of the promises would undoubtedly disappoint their kinsmen overseas, he would vote in support of the conference resolutions.
