The Hou.se of Commons rejected by 240 votes to 170 votes a Conservative motion to reduce the supply vote as a protest against the agreement with Germany in regard to the British reparations levy. The Liberals voted with the Government. Dining the debate Mr. Lloyd George spoke in a style reminiscent of his best form, and he* was loudly cheered when he declared that it was about time Britain stood up for her reparation rights. Cheers came from the Unionists, but his own followers sat silent and glum, as he indignantly protested against the assumption that Britain must always pay and never receive.
