CRISIS IN FRANCE.
THE ECONOMY PROPOSALS.
CABINET MAY RESIGN. FULL POWERS REFUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 7, 11.5 p.m. London, March 6. The Paris correspondent of the Times says that M. Poincare told the Finance Commission of the Senate that if by Tuesday the commission had not agreed to the full text of the Fiscal Reform Bill, he would place the resignation of Cabinet in the hands of the President. The object of the Bill is to deal with the financial crisis. M. Poincares threat is the result of the adoption by the commission of recommendations generally unfavourable to granting the Government power’ to effect administrative economies by the issue of decrees. The commission declared itself in favour of r policy of economy, but the policy should be controlled by Parliament.
The situation thus created was discussed by the Council of Ministers, and later M. Poincare and M. Lasteyrie (Finance Minister) attended the commission to explain the Government’s intentions. when M. Poincare made the above statement.
