THE PEOPLE’S. LAST NIGHT OF “THE GOLDEN With ouch fine material, and a splendid cast, the Metro Company have spared no expense or trouble in making “The Golden Gift” the great success it undoubtedly is, and so well has the entire picture been produced that it cannot fail to appeal to every type of pic-ture-goer. Supporting Alice Lake are Joseph Swickard, whose wonderful work in “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” will never be forgotten, John Bowers, Harriet Hammond and a host of other artists who have all appeared as stars in their own right. “The Golden Gift” is the film version of a story by June Mathis, who adapted “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” with such great success, and contains many ieatures that have never before been applied to the silent drama. “The Golden Gift” was screened last night at the People’s. The supporting films include a comedy, New Zealand scenic and Topicals. The programme screens again tonight. Admission prices are: D.C. Is sd, stalls 9d. Children will be admitted for Cd to-night.

EVERYBODY’S. LARRY SEMON MATINEE TO-DAY. In the amusement column of this issue the management of Everybody’s advertise a special joy matinee for this afternoon at 2.30. Larry the inimitable comedian, will be screened in “The Agent,” a Vitagrapli Special comedy. Anita Stewart also stars in a First National Special, “Her Mad Bargain.” Matinee and night prices are: D.C. Is fid (plus tax)", stalls Is, children fid to matinee. The story of “Her Mad Bargain ’ is based on the experience of a girl who, after attempting suicide, signs a pledge that she will live for at least one year. Love enters her heart, and by the time the end of the pro■bational period is reached she stands on the threshold of marital happiness, -convinced that life is well worth the struggling after all. Unique in theme, the picture has many little ironical twists that lay bare the shame of society and arouse sympathy for the girl who is thrust out into the world to battle alone against vicious elements. The supporting cast is a big one and includes many well-known players. The final screening is announced for tonight. WHITELEY CHOIR CONCERT. An excellent programme has been arranged for the concert to be given by the Whiteley Church Choir on Saturday evening. A varied selection of glees and part songs will be presented 'by the choir, which has a reputation for fine choral work, and there will also be some quartette items, which are always popular at such entertainments. The soloists will be Mrs. A. M. Mowlem, Miss Janet Morrison and Mr. A. V. Stamp. The price of admission will be one shilling, and the proceeds are to be handed to the Flower Show Committee. A crowded hall is confidently anticipated for the occasion, and patrons will do well to be in attendance early in order to obtain "ood seats.
