The Trade Union Congress decided that the new secretary should devote his whole time to the Labor movement and be debarred from Parliamentary candidature. His salary was increased from £l5O to £750. After a heated debate the congress decided that the dispute between the Sailors’ and Firemen’s Unions and ths Amalgamated Marine Workers’ Union should be referred to the disputes committee to try to reconcile and amalgamate the rival unions.
