UNIVERSITY TEAM RETURNS. By Telegraph.—Press Assoc atlon. Wellington, June 12. The New Zealand University Rugby representatives, except the Aucklanders, who proceeded direct from Sydney to Auckland, returned *by the Marama to-day. Mr. Leitch, manager, stated that the team did better than expected in retaining possession of the ashes. They found the Sydney grounds very hard and several players were injured, among them Jackson, captain (Canterbury), Murray, vice-captain (Otago), and Stevenson (Otago). Murray, who was the star back of the side, may be unfit for play during the remainder of the season. A conference in Sydney decided that future University tours to Sydney shall be curtailed by one week. Southern members of the team leave Wellington to-night. NEXT “SOCCER” TEST. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 12, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, June 12. By courtesy of the Rugby League authorities, Saturday's "Soccer” test will be played on the Sydney cricket ground. Writes the football contributor to the Patea Press:—l see that the Taranaki B football team is to play matches in Wanganui, Palmerston, Levin, Pahiatua, and Taumarumil, and other representative matches will be played at Eltham, Hawera, New Plymouth and Stratford. What about Patea? Could not a representative game be arranged before the season ends ? The ground has not a. superior in the province, whilst the trains suit admirably. Patea, with its train service, ought to be a centre for sport. People as a matter of fact could come by train from as far north as New Plymouth and return home the same day, whereas the people in this district cannot visit any place north of Hawera and return in tlie one day. The matter is worthy of consideration.
