•Bowling analysis.—Gregory 7 , none for 38; Mailey, ten for 66; Ryder, none for 5; Armstrong, none for 54,
Play was continued in dull and misty weather and with a small attendance. The wicket was slightly affected by drizzling rain in the morning. The feature of the innings was Mailey’s remarkable feat in capturing the whole ten of Gloucester’s wickets for 6G runs.
Keigwin and Seabrook resumed to the bowling of Armstrong and Mailey. The ball was greasy, but the batting was fairly bright. Keigwin lifted Mailey to Mayne at cover point when he had made. 65. He had 'batted for two hours and hit one sixer and two fours. His play was better and surer than in the first innings—7 for 158. Collins dropped. Mills badty at extra cover off Mailey, but the newcomer had only scored three when Pellew accepted another chance at the square leg boundary. Eleven runs later Seabrook returned one to Mailey, having scored 30 by enterprising batting. Mailey found Bessant's stumps before ho had scored, and the innings ended for 175. SOME OTHER RECORDS. London, August 23. Besides Mailey, four English bowlers have taken ten vWckets this season: Ruskby (Surrey), Parker (Gloucester), White (Somerset), Bostwick (Derbyshire). Mailey’s record is not common, though 27 cases are quoted up to 1913. Among these was the feat of E. M. Grace, who, playing for M.C.C. against Gentlemen of Kent, at Canterbury, in 1862, took all ten wickets and scored 192 not out. W. G. Grace, in 1886, When playing for -VI.C.C. against Oxford University took all the wickets and made 101 runs. Mailey is not the first Australian to lake ten wickets in a match in England, as this was accomplished by ‘ VV. tP. Howell, playing against Surrey at the Oval in 1899.
