RIVAL NAVAL SCHEMES.
JAPAN AND UNITED STATES. NEW VIEW ON DISARMAMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copy right. Received August 23, 9.5 p.m. Tokio, August 22. The Osaka newspaper Asahi Shimbun, discussing the Armament Conference, says amendments to the decisions reached at Versailles may be discussed at the conference. The paper adds: “The naval competition between the United States and Japan owes its origin to the great naval extension undertaken by America in 191 G. Japan feels the menace of the American navy most keenly, and if America removes the naval menace towards Japan before she launches the disarmament proposal, Japan will be ready to receive the scheme in the right spirit.”—Aus.-N.Z.
