METHODIST CHURCH.

The Rev. C. H. Olds,. 8.A., who is at present visiting New Plymouth in the course of his work a® organiser for the young people’s wor\ of the Methodist Church in New Zealand, gave an interesting and instructive lecture, illustrateu with lantern slides, in Whiteley Hall on Monday night. The subject dealt with was the condition of England in the time of John Wesley, and the speaker showed the great change that was produced in the conditions of life as the result of the influence of the preaching of the Wesleys and the founding of fihe Methodist Church. He stated that to Wesley was due the credit for saving England from a revolution which might have been as terrible as that which France experienced. A number of excellent slides were shown, illustrating town and countfy life in England at that time, and these were contrasted with some more modern views. The lecture was followed with close interest, and Mr. Olds was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks at its conclusion.
