Light min fell early in the morning, but afterwards the weather brightened. The wicket was slow and easy. The attendance was 8000. A quarter of an hour sufficed to dispose of the two remaining Australian wickets, which added 13. Ryder was rot out 39. Gloucester’s first innings only yielded 127. Keighwin and Robinson alone showed good batting; the others were mediocre.

Armstrong and Gregory opened the attack. The first three wickets went down for 33, then Keighwin and Robinson livened proceedings, 50 appearing in 70 minutes. Hendry came on for Gregory, and his second ball dismissed Robinson. Mailey relieved Armstrong at 87. After Keighwin had been dismissed, the remainder were quickly disposed of, Hendry and Mailey proving destructive on the lifeless wicket. The innings lasted 170 minutes. GLOUCESTER’S SECOND INNINGS. When play closed -for the day Gloucester had lost six wickets in the second innings for 115. The county- made a somewhat better showing in the second innings on the improving wicket. Mailey had the bowling honors all to himself capturing the whole six wickets at a cost, of 43 runs. Ryder, Gregory and Armstrong failed to make any impression. Barnett played a bright innings, finishing by sweeping Ryder twice io the boundary and being bowled by Mailey next ball. The fifth wicket fell at 59, but Keighwin and Rowlands remained together for 20 minutes and added 50, both hitting freely and punishing the bowling. Each man hit a six off Armstrong. Keighwin was consistent and stylish throughout, and again played a fine innings. GLOUCESTER. Second Innings. Mr. Sewell, writing in the Daily Chronicle, expressed the hope that Lancashire will deny the report that Oldfield is negotiating to play for Lancashire. Though the standard of British cricket is not as good as it might be, the importaition of Australian cricketers is not the wisest Way of raising it. After the importation of Alan, Marshall, Tarrant and Llewellyn, there was a general understanding among the counties that this sort of thing would cease. It is said that Collins and Mailey are returning to England after the visit to • South Africa.
