FAIRLIE'S PROGRESS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Fairlie ratepayers votvl to-day by 97 to 8, in favor of a loan of £BOOO to' provide hydro-eleetrieity to light the township and pump water to the tower for distribution. AUCKLAND FEARS GAS "CUT." Auckland, Last Night. According to a statement by Mr. Lowe, engineer and manager of the Auckland Gas Company, the city is once again confronted with the gloomy prospect of an early stoppage of its gas supply. The.stock of coal at the Auckland gas works is again approaching exhaustion, said Mr. Lowe, in explaining the situation. Expected shipments of coal from both Westport and Newcastle have not materialised. Since the gas supply was resumed on October 14 the company has only received 850 tons of coal from Westport, and the total quantity of Westport coal received this year up to the present is only 13,850 tons, as compared with 27,000 tons received in 1919. Unless further supplies; come to hand a cessation of gas next Tuesday is contemplated.

The City Council discussed an application from the tramway employees for the bonus of Os declared by the Arbitration Court. The application was declined, the Council pointing out that the Union was working under a special agreement, not an Arbitration Court award>
