LOAN AND MERCANTILE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile (Hawera) report as follows : On Monday,* at Opunake, dairy cattle were penned In large numbers. Bidding was fairly brisk all through, and most of the yarding was sold at the fall of the hammer. We quote: Empty, heifers £6 2s Od to £6 Bs, yearling heifers (good quality) £0 9s, others £5 Is to £4 7s, yearling bulls £2 18s, goad quality springing heifers £l7 Us to £2O, others £8 15s to £lO, maiden sows £4 10s, stores to £2 17s 6d, weaners £1 2s 6d. At Manala, on Tuesday, we had a fair yarding of all classes of stock. We quitted the yarding at satisfactory prices. We quote: .Shorfhorn springing heifers (late calvers) £l2 10s to £l3, forward cows to £8 Ids, medium ditto to £0 10s and £6 17s 6d, others to £3, sows (second litter) £4, empty ditto £3 10s, fat 4-tooth m.s. sheep £2 12s. On Friday, at Palmer Road, wc had practically a full yarding of all classes of stock. | Bidding was brisk, but a little lagging for dairy cattle. Most of the vendors had come prepared to meet the market, and all the store cattle were disposed of at late quotatlons. FARMERS' CO-OP. The Farmers' Co-op. Organisation Society, Ltd. report as follows : At Okalawa, on Monday, we had a good yarding of all classes of stock. Competition was keen and we report a good sale. We quote: Good hoggets £1 10s 6d, 2-year steers £6 ss, best cowb £l3 15s, forward stores £9 12s 6d, store cows £5 to £6 7s 6d, marling heifers £4 to £4 ss, best Jersey dairy heifers (close up) to £25, others £l4 to £l6 10s, later and more backward sorts at late rates. At Eltham, on Wednesday, there was a fair yarding of stock. Store cows showed a slight improvement as also did well grown empty heifers. Good dairy heifers sold well, poor quality sorts were not eagerly sought after. Store pigs £2 ISs, hoggets to 30s, fat cows to £l4, good fleshy cows £lO to £l2 10s, others £6 to £B, old to £4, good'yearling heifers £5 to £6, 2-year empty to £7 10s, small to £3, yearling Bteers to £3, best dairy heifers to £2O, others £lO upwards, according to quality. At Hawera, on Thursday, we had a full yarding and the condition of cattle in the store pens was very good, and taking all through the sale was dragging on that account. Hoggets were dull of sale, vendors In most cases being higher than market value. There was a good competition In the dairy pens, prices showing a slight improvement. Quotations: Empty ewes £1 10s, hoggets £1 4s l'Od to £1 Bs, fat cows £l4, good conditioned cows £9 to £lO 17s 6d, store cows £5 10s to £7 10s, 2-year empty heifers £0 ss, best yearling heifers £6 6s to £7, others £3 to £4 15s, small sorts to £2 10s, yearling steers good sorts £ 3 15s. In the dairy pens, best dairy heifers (close to profit) made to £24 10s, others £ls to £2O, best Jersey cows £26 10s, later sorts £8 to £ll. At Waverley, on Friday, we had a good yarding of cattle. Fresh conditioned eowa showed a little Improvement, sheep sold at late rates. We quote: Hoggets to £1 7s, forward cows £ll 10s, fresh conditioned cows £8 to £9 10s, 2-year empty heifers £6, dairy cattle showed the lack of feed, forward heifers £l6 to £lB ss, and later sorts at market rates. At Albert Road, on Friday, we conducted a most successful clearing sale on account of Mr. John Atkinson. There was a very large attendance and bidding was particularly brisk, prices realised being highly satisfactory. The cows were in good condition, and sold up to £4O, the herd averaging £25 Is, spring carter £SO, mare £39, implements and sundries full va'ues. HORSE SALE REPORT, Messrs. Cassldy. .jtorth and Co., report on their last horse s/le held at Wanganul as follows:—For heavy horses there was an unsatisfied demand and horses of this class sold remarkably well at this sale, our entries numbered 140 horses, besides vehicles, motor cars, etc., all horses changed hands excepting a few at prices decidedly In vendors' favor, especially broken In heavy sorts. Following were the prices realised: Broken horses, heavy half-draughts £25 to £46 10s, spring carters and shatters £lB to £3O, harness horses £8 to £32 10s, hacks £6 to £26, children's ponies £ll to £l2 10s, unbroken half-draughts £l4 to £22 10s, lighter sorts various classes from £4 10s to £ls. Wo sold several sets of harness, and odd harness, besides two gigs, three drays, etc., at satisfactory prices, and on account of Mr. T McLeod, his second-hand Ford flve-s»atir car for £165.
