Christchiirch, Last NightA case arising out of the train smash near Heathcote Bridge was heard in the Supreme Court, Andrew Clarke, a foreman carpenter, claimed £5Ol damages from the frernway Board for injuries received. Plaintiff stated that lie suffered bruises on his body and injury to his spine and nervous system, and since the accident was still incapacitated from work. He was suffering, and was likely for some time to come, from the effect of shock and from nervous disorders.

The board paid £2OO into court, and did not file a defence, counsel submitting that the only question to be decided was whether the £2OO was sufficient.
