IRELAND.
CONSPIRATORS CAUGHT. ATTEMPTING TO IMPORT ARMS. Received Jan. 30, 5.30 p.m. London, Jan. 28. x\ remarkable ease was heard at Bow Street police court. William Borrow, manager of the Midland Gun Company, of Birmingham, and John McGrath, railway goods clerk, of Camden Town, were charged under the Defence of the Realm Act with dealing in war material without a permit. Mr. Bodkin, in prosecuting, said it was alleged that defendants were engaged in endeavoring to import to Ireland. Correspondence seized showed transactions between defendants had been going on since March Ift, The police, on (he 11th of the present month, saw McGrath and Borrow at Rugby station. The lattar put two parcels aboard the Liverpool train find handed McGrath a note, bearing a Live:pool adores?, enclosing £IOO. The police examined the parcels, which contained twelve revolvers, 1"2.000 r0.m.1-' of ammuniiii n, and 301b of explosive iiuburite.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
FURTHER EVIDENCE. Received Jan. HO, !t.40 p m. London, -Tan, 20. In the Row Street case it was stated that the police had searched McGrath, who was carrying two revolvers and a Sinn Fein membership card. A letter was found in McGreth's house from Arklow County Irish Volunteers, asking lr.w revolvers and ammunition could be got from L'-erpool to Ireland. The proprietor of the Midland Gun Company, in evidence, suited that Burrow made irregular entries showing that 50,000 cartridge eases had be* n consigned to McGrath and Co.
