GIFT PARCELS DESPATCHED. Seventeen oases of gift parcels and five boxes of butter have been dej spatched by the Women's Patriotic e League and the .Victoria. League to „ Taranaki men at the front. Sergeant Greatbaoh, - writing on behalf of himself and the c Taranaki men who were with him, said 1 a parcel of gifts were received while ? they were billeted just beyond the fir- - ing line. Xotliing could have been more * welcome, Sergeant Greatbach wrote, i than the Taranaki butter and jam. The - men greatly appreciated these food- ' stuffs. f FURTHER APPRECIATION. A further acknowledgment of comforts despatched' by the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee to the 1 men at the front is contained in the following letter received yesterday by ' Mrs. 0. H. Burgess from- Lieutenant Neville H. Arden, of New Plymouth:— * "Very many thanks for a box full of ' most excellent parcels, which were distributed oh September 2 to the Lewis gun section of Ist Battalion N.J5.R.8 these parcels readied us through Cha.p----n lain-Captain Houchen. It was rather appropriate that we should have received your box, as the Lewis gun see- i tion is composed mostly of Taranaki ■ lj men. ' The parcels were given lis just before we marched out on a. long trek r towards the firing line. All along the, ~ route you, could see the men opening their packages. They are greatly appre- , ciated, and perhaps most of all the , address of people who send them. . . i [1 This is a beautiful country. Xp wonder ' " the French love it.
