A RACECOURSE SENSATION.
STAND AT ADDINCTON ON FIRE. FIRE BRIGADU HOLD A.'.OOF. KACIXG HELD U'l'. By Teiegraph.—Press Association, Ohristchurel), Last Night. A great sensation was caused at the Metropolitan Trotting Club's track at Addingtou this afternoon by the discovery of a fire in the stewards' stand, recently greeted at a cost of £ 10,000. Buckets and garden hoses were brought to bear on the flames, hut a. high wind was blowing, and speedily brought about the destruction of the building. The lire brigade would not attend till the stand was half gone, (the track being outside the fire district), and only came after the superintendent had made himself acquainted with the seriousness of the position. The firemen were hooted, indignation running, high at the refusal to attend. The building was insured for '.-EROfin, but furniture, valued at £3OOO was destroyed. After a postponement of over an hour to allow the smoke to clear, racing was resumed. At the time of the outbreak tho Cup horses were just going to the post.
