The annual report and balance-sheet | of the Bank of Now Zealand for the year ended March 31 shows profits of £357,003, less interest guaranteed stock £•21,292, leaving £335.800. From this £50,000 is allocated in reduction of the bank premises account, etc., leaving the balance of profit for the year at £285,800, which, with £57,170 from last year, totals £332,971 From this there has been paid dividends amounting to £104,297, leaving available for distribution £238,674, from which dividends on A shares, amounting to £20,000, are proposed to be paid, a dividend on ordinary and B preference shares, amounting to £74,908, 3 per cent, bonus on ordinary and C preference shares ( £37.301) It is also proposed ■Jo transfer to the reserve £50,000, making the reserve fund £2,0(12,141, and to carry forward £56,464. Wheat.—Dull on the American weakness Calcutta final wheat estimates of the Indian crop are 29J million quarters, nearly 16 per cent, decrease compared with 1915. Wool.—At the sales 5715 bales were offered, an excellent selection, chiefly New Zealand and Westralian. There was a large attendance and keen competition, especially for merinos. Owing to the scarcity, best advanced 10 per cent., average soris 5 to 71 per cent., and line crossbreds fully 5 per cent. Medium and low hardly maintained their previous levels. The wool trade consider it unlikely tli?t the Australian embargo will be removed. The general impression is that the situation demands the conservation of merinos for the next few months. THE EMBARGO ON WOOL. BRISBANE SALES~ABANDONED. Sydney, May 31. Private telegrams from Brisbane confirm the London cablo regarding the reason for the wool embargo. The High Commissioner advised the Wool Brokers' Association that the Imperial authorities are instituting the embargo because it fears a shortage owing to heavy American purchases. The Commonwealth is negotiating with the Imperial Government, and some relaxion is possible. It is anticipated that the Brisbane catalogue will be offered in conjunction with the Sydney sales next week. The embargo has dislocated shipping. The Waikawali's trip to Brisbane to load 10,000 bales for San Francisco has been cancelled, NEW SOUTH WALES CROPS. Sydney, June 1. The Government Statistician's preliminary estimate for the 1915-16 wheat yield is 67,3P3,300 bushels, an average of 15.fl bushels per acre; barley, malting, 70,000 bushels, an average of 1(1.7 bushels; oats, 1,410,000 bushels, an average of 22.9 bushels, all showing a large increase on the previous year's wheat yield, which was 12,830,000 bushels only, NEW PLYMOUTH MARKETS.
