THE TRAMS.

FULL SERVICE AT EASTKR. UNBROKEN SUNDAY TIMETABLE ADVOCATED. At the meeting of the Tramway* Committee of the Borough Council last night, the Mayor (Mr. 0, H. Burgess), stated that the full tramway service between Fitzroy and Moturoa would be ' in operation by Easter, but the Morley Street extension would not then be roady. The service would be: firmly tstablished after Easter, when it'was pro. posed to hold the official opening. Crs S, J. Smith, L. M. Monteath, and> J. H S. Medley were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange the opening ceremony. The following letter was received from the tramways engineer: "I beg to request that the Council's decision re the running of a Sunday service be reconsidered, deleting that portion wWcby the servico is stopped for one hour > morning and evening during Church service. Presuming that the only objection the churches have to the trams being ' run during the hours of service is the noise' made by them, I would suggest that all cars when passing a church during service hours be run at a reduced speed and sound no gongs. Apart from the loss of revenue, I ant tonvinced that the majority of the public will consider it a great inconvenience if they are deprived of a service during these hours. In conolusiun, I beg to state that on other tramway syatejmjk where the stopping of tlio service during church hours was adopted, it has sow, in the majority of cases, been done avu| with." In Support of this request, Mr. Bartley quoted figures showing that Ul approximate amount of £72 tt would to - lost to tjio Tramway Department during the year if the service is compelled tt shut down these two hours on ESundw, Consideration of the hitter, m w ferred until next meeting, ' "'
