PONSONBY V. 1-ITZROY. Three rinks of Ponsonliy bowlers, who arrived fr#m the north yesterday morning to play a series of friendly games in .Tar/inaki, opened their tour at Fitzrov i/i the afternoon and had an enjt/iab.e game with three Fitzroy rinks. It took the visitors some few heads to get the measure of the greeii, and the local players were thus enabled to get a lead which they succeeded 111 retaining till the play ceased.

At the seventh head, dray was down 3 to 13, but at the tea adjournment the score was 15-all. At the seventeenth head he was 10 —19, but two heads later was in the lead by two for the first time during the game, but he then fell away, Abbott winning by 2S to 23. Wallace had oHly scored one to Lealand's nine at the seventh head, and throughout was several paints behind his opponent, but managed to reduce the gap at the last head when he scored three, losing the game by 19 to 24. The game between Taylor and Smith commenced badly for the former, who was the life and soul of the visiting teams,, but towards the close of the game he made a good recovery, scoring three on the 23rd head, and was only defeated by the narrowest af margins. This morning the visitors are to play scratch teams on the New Plymsuth green, and in the afternoon they will play West End on the latter's ground, On Thursday they play at Hawera in the morning, and at Stratferd in the afternoon, returning to New Plymouth by the mail train. No fixture has been arranged for Friday morning, but the visitors will play at Ingleweod in the afternoon. On Satin day m»rning and afternon they play on the New Plymouth green, and leave for north by steamer the same nigkt. The banner match between Hawera and Now Plymeuth takes place oa tlie town green t«-iay- t _ The following rinks hare been chosen to represent Hawera against New Plymouth in a banner match to-day:—Bur-gess, Tong, J. Syme, C. E. Hollard; Spence, Brunette, Curtis, Foy; Bates, Crabb, 'Sb«re, Parkinson; Adamson, Keen, A. Rebertson, W. Robertson; McPhillips, Foden, Hadge, Tarrant; Rudkin, Dunlop, Grant, R. Tait. The fallowing will represent West End in the match against Ponsonby today, commencing at 2 p.m.:—Putt, Honeyfleld, Oliver, L»bb; G. Thomson, Petty, Hill, Sole; Jones, Johnson, Newell, .Johnson. The Hawera Club's buttons match on Saturday resulted:—Burgess, Burrell, Parrington, Hollard, 19; Weir, Cunnabell, Curtis, Foy 16. The Hawera Club's champion singles have been won by Parkinson. There were twenty entrants. Parkinson won 16 games and lost three; Hollard won m and lost four, with one to play.
