ELTHAM COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The Eltham County Council met on Saturday. Present: Crs. A. ('. Pease (chairman). C. E. Guinness, E, J. Clifford, J Granville, C. J. Belcher, A. McWilliam, D. Black, A. Tait, and A. Campbell. „The engineer (Mr. F. Basham) reported) : South Riding.—The metalling on the Mountain Road is completed to the Borough boundary. A further coat of tar and sand has yet to he applied. The Borough Council have requested me to contiuue the work on to the bridge and they will pay half cost. Metalling on the Tioylan Road will be commenced in abmjc a week. Mangatoki Riding.—Where necessary roads have been blinded with clay. Kaponga Riding.—The Awatuna culvert has been repaired and work on the renewal of the culvert at the upper end of the Mangawhero Road has been commenced. The new culvert should lie finished in about a week. A start will be made next week on the tar and sand work between Riverlea and Awatuna. Eltham Riding.—Contractor lias completed delivery of shell rock, on the Huia and Rawh*tiroa Roads. I propose sending a roller in to the Mangamingi Valley before the winter ary rolling in the new metal as far as it will go and scarifying tip parts of the road where there is sufficient metal to warrant it. Omoana Riding. The Rawhitiroa Road is now in fairly good order right through to the big washout about one mile from the far extremity of the road. Work on the new filling there is in hand. I hope to be able to reduce hands to the normal number by about the end of the present month. Patea Bridge.—The position with regard to the work on this bridge is most disappointing. Everything in reason that can he tried has been done hut still we have not been able t6 solve the problem of sinking the cylinder for boring the necessary holes for the piles. condition. The matter was left in-the hands of the chairman, riding members, and the engineer, with a view to deciding on a scheme to place before the Egmont County Council. GENERAL. Mr. A. M. Brodie, Mangamungi, asked the Council to arrange for a portion of the Anderson Road, which is now in the Stratford County, to be transferred to the Eltham County, This road is a continuation of the Mangumingi Road.—Councillors agreed that the transfer should be made, and steps to get this done will be taken. Details of the Government superannuation scheme, which have been forwarded to all County Councils, were received and consideration of the matter was transferred to the Finance Committee. It was decided to close the Boylan Road while the work of metalling the road is in progress. A committee consisting of the chairman, and Crs. Belcher and Campbell was appointed to confer with the engineer iu reference to the Patea Bridge.
